That's What You Say! (feat. Dr. Lonnie Smith)

A 10 track funk album (50m 23s) — released May 27th 2013 on Unique

After meeting and gigging earlier in 2012, Dr. Lonnie and The Jazzinvaders decided it would be fun to spend some days in the studio to see what would happen. When the opportunity occurred, new material was written in practically no time at all and after three days of recording there appeared to be a completely spontaneous 4th album recorded live in the studio! Finding a suitable title for the upcoming album wasn't that hard. The Doctor appeared to be a great storyteller and this one quote was stuck in our memory: "That's What You Say!" needed to be the title of the new album, an album that reflects a fruitful co-operation and lots of respect.

According to the band, the album containing eight brand new tracks and two rearranged standards lead to it's "most jazzy album so far". The grooves by Phil and Ton, the compositions by Van Duikeren, Delfos, Nijs and Busstra combined with lyrics and vocals of Bloemhard and the always impressive and tasty Hammond by Dr. Lonnie, seemed to be the perfect ingredients for this new album.

Just like the band did on their previous albums, they managed to stick to their trademark and typical "Jazzinvaders Sound"; easy accessible jazz combined with nicely flavoured and surprising beats! This unique sound allowed the band to tour all over the world over the past few years playing lots of festivals and clubs in countries like Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, UK, Austria and also Japan! The band's releases can be found all over the globe and the media seem to like the band a lot too.

Dr. Lonnie Smith
Dr. Lonnie Smith has been active as a musician and composer for over more than 50 years. He's thought of being a pioneer when it comes to the legendary Hammond B3 organ. He has recorded over seventy albums to date, many of those for the Blue Note label, and he has worked with all the greats when it comes to Jazz, Blues and R&B. He's responsible for classic tunes like Think! Move You Hand, Drives, Live at Club Mozambique, Finger Lickin' Good and Alligator Boogaloo. He has worked and played with many artists in and outside jazzcircles including George Benson, Lee Morgan, Dizy Gillespie, King Curtis, Etta James, Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight. Without a doubt Dr. Lonnie Smith is (next to James Brown) one of the most samples artists in Rap, Dance, House and Acid Jazz music.

Working together with the Doctor felt so good that the band decided to organize a release tour featuring Doctor Lonnie. In May 2013 this plan will come to fruition as The Jazzinvaders and Dr . Lonnie tour the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Simultaneously the album will be released in Japan.

On "That's What You Say!" The Jazzinvaders will present Jazz in a refreshing way like no one else can; two steps back and three steps forward. By starting with a groove, The Jazzinvaders will initiate a journey taking the listener where probably someone has gone before, but no one has returned from like the Jazzinvaders ...
